It’s hard to figure out the game plan of Nassau Leg. David Mejias, who has been feuding with his Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs. But he managed to anger all other nine county Democratic lawmakers during Monday’s legislative meetings.

At one point, the Farmingdale Democrat lashed out at Legis. Wayne Wink (D-Port Washington), who had been Mejias’ strongest ally on the legislature, and then he got into a row with Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick).
But the clincher came when Mejias, as Health Committee chairman, called a hearing into autism without telling his colleagues he was doing it. And then he took testimony for nearly three hours.
The delay prevented all but two of the 10 Democratic lawmakers from attending the annual county Democratic dinner Monday night because most had to stay for subsequent committee meetings.
One of the two who made it to the dinner, however, was Mejias.
Jacobs did not include Mejias among the notables introduced to the crowd at the Crest Hollow Country Club. But outgoing PBA president Gary DelaRaba, one of three honorees, mentioned him. DelaRaba, a Republican, said he never expected to be honored by the Democrats. “I understand it was between me and Dave Mejias,” he said, to a roar of laughter.
