Gov. David Paterson named Nassau District Court judge Norman St. George of Freeport to fill a $136,700-a-year vacancy on the county court (above) through the end of the year. St. George ran unsuccessfully for an open seat on the countywide bench last November. In a move that had been planned before Eliot Spitzer’s resignation as governor last month, St. George now fills the spot vacated by Jeffrey Brown, who moved up to the state Supreme Court last year, reports Newsday’s Ann Givens.

Gov. David Patterson nomination of judge Norman St. George is an excellent choice. I've had the privelage of being in Mr. St. George's courtroom where I was witness to his brilliance first-hand. He operates his courtroom so efficiently. At all times his choice of word's, his demeanor, his ability to judge right down the middle with no prejudice either way, all of which are traits that make up this man. Judge St. George may never no this but he has changed my life. I will continue to follow his career where on merit the sky is the limit for him. Thank you judge.
Judge St. George is neither a genius nor capable of the unbiased administration of justice. He comes across as intelligent, businesslike and efficient. More, however, is required of an individual responsible for irrevocably disrupting families and changing people's lives. He demonstrates a particular lack of empathy and understanding and had an obvious agenda while running the domestic violence part of Nassau County District Court. Anyone interested in this man should look at his record and question why he was abruptly transferred to hear DWI cases and replaced by a much less experienced judge, after being "given the responsibility of establishing Nassau County's first Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Court" and presiding over it for three years. In the end, he is another political climber who failed to achieve his position by election but managed to do so through political cronyism. No thank you, judge.
