Question: If he resigns.....

Spitzer (below, with Silda) is giving no signals of a resignation. But, caught on a wiretap with an international prostitution ring, with info flowing to the NYT now that seems to be coming from law enforcement, it doesn't look real promising. The Republican Governors Association has already called on him to resign.

We just spoke to Hank Sheinkopf, longtime NY political consultant. He anticipates some resistance: "Eliot Spitzer is not a guy that gives up easily."

But, he just hasn't made a lot of friends while castigating the ethics of many others: "Eliot's enemies are going to gang up on him now."

Here's a question: LG David Paterson has been the presumed deciding Democratic vote in the state Senate if the Dems get one more seat to tie up the chamber. If Paterson becomes governor, then what are the LG replacement provisions? Would the Senate have to confirm or is a joint Senate/Assembly decision, like the comptroller?

There are no provisons for a new Lt. Governor. Senate president is next in line now. That means Bruno, the guy under federal investigation.
