Latest Clinton tactic: Fake news reports

hillary34.jpg

The Clinton campaign's latest tactic in Ohio is, apparently, a radio ad that tries to make listeners think it's a news report until the very end.

Stuff like this, if it succeeds in fooling voters, fairly seriously pollutes the information environment by trying to steal the credibility of the news media and use it to present a biased, exagerrated set of facts. Why can't we rely on people who want to be president to not engage in the kind of creepy behavior that you teach your kids not to do?

Here's the script:

"This is an election news update with a major news story reported by the AP. While Senator Obama has crisscrossed Ohio giving speeches attacking NAFTA, his top economic advisor was telling the Canadians that was all just political maneuvering. A newly released document from the Canadian government shows that Obama’s senior economic advisor met with the Canadian Consul General and made clear that Obama’s attack on NAFTA were just, quote, “political maneuvering,” not policy. Political maneuvering, not policy. In fact, the document shows that Obama’s advisor also assured the Canadians that these attacks against NAFTA would not continue. Obama would not want to be, quote, “fundamentally changing the agreement.” As Senator Obama was telling one story to Ohio, his campaign was telling a very different story to Canada. How will Ohioans decide whether they can believe Senator Obama’s words? We’ll find that out on election day. Paid for by Hillary Clinton for President."

I have changed my mind and I will vote for the Clintons.

Two for one!

Their political savvy won me over.

I mean, really, I just love the way they play the game. All that stuff they used to be known for is in the past, right? I like that they will do anything to win. Fighters for the people. They do keep their word don't they? Wow - what great role models! More of this please.

Who needs change anyway!

HA! great.

How can one "steal the credibility of the news media" when said credibility doesn't exist?

When I decide to sit out the general election rather than cast a vote validating Clinton's tactics, things like this will be why.

I read both side of the NAFATA story in Canada and I have to side with Clinton. This story isn't going to go away because it's became a political issue up there.
I know first hand how Ohio has suffered but now with NAFATA being in the news we can see how it working quite well in some other areas of the country. Maybe Ohio lost out because of the lake preventing importer/exporters from that physical contact with trading countries. I'm sorry but we can't blame the Act when business doesn't react properly. I guess they feel that it needs to be handed to them.

Obama did the same thing against Edwards in Iowa.
Oblahma is a con.

I remember when clintons championed NAFTA and how bill up to recently talked about how NAFTA was good for US. The fact is NAFTA has only helped the big corporations who support Clinton and have a strong control of Media. So there is no surprising that all major media outlets from NBC, CBS, CNN have been running pro-hillary news and information. Get real every one. Hillary is good for corporations and for Israel and hence all the support from media outlets that are mainly based in NY.

Listen I've trying to look at the cable networks coverage of the election. But I must say the Media is starting to show it's true colors toward Senator Obama. All morning long it's been Obama Obama Obama. You would think MSNBC & CNN were FOX NEWS. There is no balance in both of there reporting today. SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU. Please hurry up and put Chris & Keith on today. Those guys are what you call fair and balance. And one last thing looking at MSNBC MORNING JOE SHOW THIS MORNING FELT LIKE FOX NEWS YOU TO TUCKER.....BUT THAT'S TO BE EXCEPTED

Inside The Kitchen Sink

From the NYT:

After struggling for months to dent Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy, the campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is now unleashing what one Clinton aide called a “kitchen sink” fusillade against Mr. Obama, pursuing five lines of attack since Saturday in hopes of stopping his political momentum.

Let's see what has been tossed inside the kitchen sink:

-A vicious email smear campaign, falsely portrays Obama as a Muslim. He has been a devout Christian for 20 years. The Clinton camp has the opportunity to firmly decry such tactics, or to sow the seeds of doubt. Clinton on 60 minutes: If he says that he is a Muslim "I'll take him at his word";

- A picture of Obama dressed in traditional Somali garb, mysteriously arises and is splashed across the front page of the Drudge Report, designed, like the above, to inflame the most base and simplistic prejudices. Again, the Clinton campaign has the opportunity to refuse to use prejudice and stereotype to political advantage. Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams responds: "If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed";

-Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is a Conservative. His Chief of Staff Ian Brodie leaks supposed minutes of statements by an Obama aide. The statement is not by the Obama aide, and the minutes were not taken by the Obama aide, they were taken by a Canadian official. Liberal Canadian parties decry the attempt by the Conservative Party to influence the U.S. election. The Clinton camp accepts this specious account as valid--and throws it in the kitchen sink as well;

-The Clinton camp, in Drudge-like fashion, insinuates dark misdoings regarding Antoin Rezko--despite the fact that there has been absolutely no allegations of wrongdoing by Obama--hoping perhaps that the mere association will stick--and despite the questions that have been raised about Clinton fundraising during the years of her own "experience";

-The Clinton campaign rolls out the hackneyed "red phone" advertisement, dating to Walter Mondale's 1984 campaign, to suggest that she, unlike Obama, has greater experience for such "3 A.M. moments". When asked to name one such crisis situation that she has actually had to deal with, she is unable to name one.

-Mark Penn, the Clinton campaign's chief strategist, in the weekend panic, emails the L.A. Times to state that he had "'no direct authority in the campaign,' describing himself as merely 'an outside message advisor with no campaign staff reporting to me.'"

This sink is filled with the type of fear-based politics that we have come to know so well over these past 8 years. It is fundamentally defensive, and is all-too-willing to use the familiar tools of dishonesty and distortion in pursuit of victory. It indicates how a Clinton Administration would respond to adversity--with a tactical fusillade of presentations, followed by distortion and attack.

It's time to clean the dishes. Don't allow yourself to be misled by misrepresentation, insinuation and division. Leave this kind of politics behind."

Who cares if it was portrayed like a news annoucement? It can't be more blatant and irresponsible as our REAL news media. After all, who helped lie to the public about Iraq? Who's helping lie to the public about Iran? Who's acting like shooting rockets into Israel is way too important to mention the thousands of women, children, and innocent lives DEAD because of Israeli aggression? Who misled the public about Israel's involvement in the slaughter of thousands on 9/11? Who lied to the public about the U.S.S. Liberty?

The news is a joke, no matter who the mouthpiece is.

America like Fox News because its Fake News! Everyone knows how Americcan like fakes. Why do you think GW is sitting in the oval office destroying the middle class of America by faking the niave people to believe he is protecting their children from the terriorists! There is no recession just ask GW. Hey, he is a straight shooter from Texas, right? And Cheney why of course we can believe everything Dick Boy says, right! But alas, 8 out of 10 people when asked the question: "Who is the Vice President" were totally clueless. Most thought it would Rumsfeld! So kiddies now you know why Chimpy and his gang of thugs can do just about anything they want and not be held responsible! The Team Billary have been studying Karl Roves book on Dirty Tricks, and they seem to be getting the dirty tricks down pretty good. Why do you think Fake News hired Karl Rove!

It's a great short term strategy. She better hope it works today cause this kind of sleeze is going to boomerang back at her big time in future contests.

hell hath no fury...

Obama's latest tricks. CHEATING. From NoQuater.com

Jeralyn at Talkleft has the breaking story, “Dirty Tricks in Texas and Ohio?“:

I’m receiving reports that contrary to Texas Democratic party caucus rules that preclude registration forms from being submitted before either 7:15 pm or the last vote at a precinct has been cast, Obama volunteers are handing out the forms at precincts today and asking people to fill them in and then collecting them. For Obama to submit the forms on the voters’ behalf without the voter physically being present at the caucus would violate the rules.

Jeralyn, an attorney who’s a legal expert for the media, cites the rules:

Participants may NOT begin signing in until the precinct convention has been called to order. The call to order may not occur until 7:15 p.m. OR whenever the last voter finishes voting at that polling location whichever is later. If, after the convention has been called to order and participants have signed in, any participant who wishes to leave may do so, and their sign in WILL count toward the delegate allocation for each candidate. Sign-In ends when the last person present waiting to sign in has done so.

I heard she had sprouted horns and a tail, too!

Give me a break! I'm not even a Democrat and I'm really getting sick of the media and the Obamaites demonizing this woman. This is a political ad, just like ALL political ads . . . smarmy. Is she evil? No. She is simply a political candidate running for office. Personally, if I were a Democrat, I would be more inclined to voter for her than Obama . . . look at all the bs that's been thrown at her and she's still in a neck and neck race with the sainted one. He, on the other hand, just refuses to discuss issues which come up about him . . . if he wins the nomination, he's gonna be raw meat for the Republicans . . . too many unanswered issues, too many skeletons in the closet.

It's a real shame that the media has left us with this AWFUL slate of candidates.

Seriously now; could we please start getting the same kind of scrutiny of Obama that we have been bombarded with on the Clinton side? Why is this man off limits to no critism for crying out loud? And please read other news sites for a little more information on this story; if theres anything you should learn from the year 2000 to now is you have to read 10 other articles and then use reason and common sense to figure out the truth.

This is turning out to be a bad AMERICAN IDOL dream!

Man, oh man, not only is this about fake news, there seems to be a lot of paid talkers (read paid propagandists) on the site by Hillary.

Great blog. This pathological lying must end. It's not only nasty, it's tacky. Karl Rove's playbook doesn't work in a web world built on an ever-evolving network of increasing connections. Check out an article about Hill-Bill's misguided strategy here: http://mydamnchannel.com/news/hillary_pays_blacks_to_campaign_789.aspx

Clinton's attack ads have made me change my vote. I was going to vote for her but I am so sick and tired of the same old Washington politics her campaign is playing that I voted for Obama. If Clinton wins and is the nominee I might just vote for McCain depending on how he runs his campaign. Either way I will not vote for Clinton.

Can we hear the audio please? why should we take your word for it. Link to the ad so we can listen and judge for ourselves.
thanks

A bit insulting to us voters, eh? Then again, they've been banking on us believing everything we hear without fact checking for a long, long time...

Remember Hillary was a republican before she married Clinton. By the way she has voted for Bush while in the senate, who in the h... said she is a democrats now. Her Rove tactics in the campaign shows nothing is below her when she wants to win or her way.

Looks as if Hillary thinks more of herself then the democratic party and is trying to damage Obama so if he wins the nomination he would be damage goods for McCain. Hillary has had close ties with the republicans and keep company with McClain and in his company while touring different everts. Looks as if she never left the republican party when she married Bill Clinton. Remember republicans play both sides of the street to get elected or anything they wish. Just look how many republicans we have elected into our democratic party already. Remember Hillary has voted on all the issues which were important to Bush and his administration like the war in Iraq, calling Iran revolutionary guards terroris given Bush the authority to invade Iran and many other of his programs.

How can anyone think Hillary Clinton would be for our jobs if she is against them when the Clintons were in office.

Just like her health plan , what kind of service and price will citizens pay for the health insurance if everyone "has To Have It" and you will pay extra with less benefits to pay for the persons like illegal immigrants which we know d... well will use it and not pay a penny for it like they are doing now...

When citizens have to have something and private corporations control what you have to buy,,,, they will charge you the same as they are for your gas , oil , food , housing and etc...

We have to clean our party from inside out and soon....

"Stuff like this, if it succeeds in fooling voters, fairly seriously pollutes the information environment by trying to steal the credibility of the news media"

------

You can't "steal" something that doesn't exist.

Both Hillary and Obama are using NAFTA as a political football, and they both know it. The actual causes of Ohio's and other state's manufacturing job losses are a bit more complex than just NAFTA. The rhetoric is substituting for what should be a far larger conversation about how globalization has negatively impacted America's working class, and how we as a nation can go about mitigating its impact.

Simply sticking some additional environmental or labor protections in NAFTA is not going to change anything, anymore than repealing it entirely would. At this point, even Mexico is losing jobs to China and other Asian countires, the elephant-in-the-living-room issue that promising to "fix" NAFTA allows the candidates to avoid having to address.

Leave it to the Democrats to "snatch Defeat from the jaws of Victory".

If you put this lame dog Hillary in the race, mark these words, she will lose in November. And Rush Limbaugh and others will be laughing and saying "boy they really ARE that stupid".

We have a guy like Obama who can kick ass and take no prisoners in November who also promises change to this broken political system and we all say no, we prefer this BS???

Good luck putting all those angry Obama supporters back into the jar they broke out of if their man loses. They will stay home on election night, or worse yet, vote for Nader. We'll never get this opportunity again.

I AM SICK OF OHIO SCREWING UP THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!

the longer this drags out.... the more divided the democrats will become....mwahahaha
-JM

As a liberal, I will vote for McCain if Hillary is the nominee

It is being reported that Hillary's video about "who will protect your children at 3:00 am ......from an intruder" was a video that John McInsane was planning to use against both Clinton and Obama. She jumped the gun on McInsane and punched a hole in the conservaturds bubble. I know some think that Clinton and Obama are like two beasts with claws going at each other, but those who know the two personally know different. In the end, whoever is the nominee, the democrats must support 100 per cent and the other candidate will do so also. We have one objected here, to stop these rightwing-repugnikkkan-conservaturds who are destroying not only our country and society, but our Constitution. I am a veteran and I am disgusted in McInsane and how he uses his military service and his being a victim of torture to run on an agenda that supports torture, supports more war, and keeps Reaganomics in play. Wake up people! We must unite and take the House, the Senate, the White House back and put it in the hands of progressives.

Clinto thinks that all the democrats will vote for whoever wins the primary race.
That is false.
I am a lifelong democrat and want Obama to win.
If Clinton wins I will vote for McCain.
Clinton voters will vote for Obama, but lots of Obama voters will not vote for Clinton.

Regards,

Todd D

Yes the Clintons proved they will do anything to get to office... and yet won't keep their promises... I find Hilary stumping from Fox News and accepting kudos from Karl Rove proof that she's torn a page out of the republican book of scorched earth politicking... what does this type of campaign get you? lots of enemies... she's tearing the Democratic Party in half. ps getting Republicans voting to help your margins in Ohio and Texas is not the will of the Democratic Party!!! She's gonna lose by God she's gonna lose but she's gonna make it ugly ...

To all the progressive people out there who will not vote for Hillary if she is the Democratic nominee -- I am with you.

The problem is that she is beholden to corporate interests. NAFTA, the Bankruptcy bill, the War in Iraq -- these are issues that have to do with increased corporate profits trumping the interests of everyday, working Americans. As an article in the Nation put it in June 2007: "her lengthy support for the Iraq War is Clinton's biggest liability in Democratic primary circles. But her ties to corporate America say as much, if not more, about what she values and cast doubt on her ability and willingness to fight for the progressive policies she claims to champion." The article also states "Not only is Hillary more reliant on large donations and corporate money than her Democratic rivals, but advisors in her inner circle are closely affiliated with unionbusters, GOP operatives, conservative media, and other Democratic party antagonist."

Is it any wonder that she has taken more special interest money than ANY other Democrat OR Republican in the race? Is anyone surprised that she has received more defense industry money than any other candidate? Make no mistake about it, however, John McCain is also beholden to the same interests.

So where does that put us as a country that identifies the path we are currently on leads to nothing good, but is forced to choose between two candidates supported by the status quo?

Every person who will vote in upcoming Democratic primaries should read this article before casting their vote:

Hello,

I recently wrote to Hillary and maybe she was informed about my case and some other stuff happening, concerning fake Al Quaida (we write it El Kaida - I hope it's correct) warnings in Britain up to an atom bomb attack - and nothing happend. She knows about the things among Roswell, Buffy, Angel Charmed, Voyager, Contact, and you can forget what they write on the movies and the media keep totally silent about it, when they are involved. I wrote Contact before the Novell. And I didn't know The Lost World.

They just wrote to the TV and they informed the Pentgon and they analysed it. This is done by a crazy doctor and an American story and script thief, being schizophrenic and being convinced it is my fault.

MAYBE that's why she said that. She must have been very upset after phoning with Jodie Foster. (Hi Charles and Kit - I may not write to you and I may never see you both - till you are 18)

Sincerely

It seemed not to have worked (and they delete the scandal like all the others from the media - Greetings from Hillary???)

"Stuff like this, if it succeeds in fooling voters, fairly seriously pollutes the information environment by trying to steal the credibility of the news media and use it to present a biased, exaggerated set of facts."

Come on; journalistic media lost it's integrity and soul the very first time the industry participated in sweeps. Now, we've got CNBC and Keith on the left, and Fox and (well, everybody there, but to be fair and single somebody out) Bill on the right, and nary an unbiased journalist or news group in between. It seems to me that the only thing both sides can agree on in the media is that unbiased reporting needs to be stamped out any way possible, which is the one thing both sides will rally behind, since while sensationalism is good, sensationalism that makes THEM look bad is not, even if it happens to be true.

It's one of the main reasons that I have been driven out of country to find my news. Seems Reuters and BBC have much more accurate reporting on our national affairs than anybody in the States can seem to muster, and act with more integrity it seems as well.
