Schumer: Plagiarism "not serious" (Updated)

schumer219.jpeg

Chuck Schumer, supposedly a Hillary person, tells NY1 the Obama/Patrick word-borrowing flap is "not a serious issue."

And: “It’s going to be forgotten in about two weeks.”

And: "In the grand scheme of things the candidates positions on the major issues as well as their ability to beat John McCain and then be a good president, far exceeds things like this.”

Schumer is a smart guy and a well-connected guy. It's interesting that he, of all people, would be dis-respecting an attack vector that Clinton has been investing a lot in.

Update: Dan Janison thinks the full context isn't quite as bad a dis. Dan: "Schumer says it's legitimate of Hillary to bring it up, not below the belt, that's the qualifier. He seems to try to make it sound like he's filing it under the subject of let's not give McCain the ammo."

Subject: NY1 ItCH Alert: Schumer Downplays Clinton's "Plagiarism" Attack On Obama

In an interview on “Inside City Hall,” Senator Charles Schumer said Hillary Clinton camp’s charges that Barack Obama has plagiarized from Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick “is not a serious issue.”

For the second day in a row, Clinton’s chief spokesman, Howard Wolfson, held a conference call in which he’s pointed out similarities between Obama’s stump speech and Patrick’s.

Speaking to NY1 political anchor Dominic Carter Tuesday, Schumer said Wolfson’s charges will “be forgotten in about two weeks.”

“I’ll leave it to the voters to decide," said Schumer. "I will tell you this, whatever side you come out on here, whether Barack [Obama] was right or wrong to do this, it’s going to be forgotten in about two weeks. This is not a serious issue. In terms of the long term of the election, it’s legitimate for Hillary to bring it up. I don’t think it’s a below the belt hit that is crippling to the party’s chances of winning, but in the grand scheme of things the candidates positions on the major issues as well as their ability to beat John McCain and then be a good president, far exceeds things like this.”

It must be Sunday, Senator Schumer is all over the Media today. He must be worried about McCain winning NY, and sweeping the Nation. And the possibility that Lieberman may take a cabinet post and a Republican would replace him in the Senate from Conn.

BTW did you read the NY Post story on Schumers "BRAIN" Hank Morris and his deals with Hevesis Treasurer. I wonder if Senator Schumer ever visited Hank Morris's home in the HAMPTONS.

what's that metaphor ? Oh, yeah, Rats forsaking a sinking ship!

Hillary said "not a big deal" , obama said it was not a big deal, they guy he quoted said not a big deal. The only people who do think this is a big deal are the Press (making nothing itno a story by beating the dead horse for days) or desperate Republican, haters who have already realized they have no substative arguments or winning issues to discuss. They look childish and hypocritical after all the things Bush has said and done that are a million times worse than this that they cast aside as "not important." From the Downing Street memo, to the obstruction of justice conviction, to the AG firings, they are laughable to get "excited" about something as contrived as this. Simply desperate, pathetic and petty.
