Texas State Sen. Kirk Watson, the Obama surrogate who was unable to come up with a single accomplishment of Obama's when questioned by Chris Matthews last night, has posted a mea culpa on his legislative website:
He says Matthews was "ferocious," and: "My mind went blank. I expected to be asked about the primary that night, or the big one coming up in Texas on March 4, or just about anything else in the news. When the subject changed so emphatically, I reached for information that millions of my fellow Obama supporters could recite by heart, and I couldn’t summon it."
He then lists accomplishments he would have mentioned "had I not lost my mind," adding: "Of course, it would have helped to remember all of this last night."
The kicker:
"He has the record to prove that all of this is possible. It’s something no one should forget.. . .
"Even though I did.. . .
"On national television."

I had a similar experience with an Obama campaigner shortly before Super Tuesday. When I asked her to describe Obama's qualifications, all she could come up with was that he had been president of the Harvard Law Review. When I pointed out that this is usually considered an early career accomplishment, and that there are a number of other people out there who have been law review editors at top universities, she threw up her hands and walked away, as though I was just too dumb to get it. I guess I was supposed to take his transcendent brilliance on faith.
