The gloves are off between Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and his one-time top deputy, Paul Sabatino.
After Levy deputy Jeff Szabo disclosed in a memo to the comptroller last week that Levy was ready to fire Sabatino last November if he did not resign, the former chief deputy said he made his decision to depart last July — because he and Levy were increasingly at odds with each other.
“He said my putting things in writing was causing him all sorts of problems,” said Sabatino. “I told him not putting things in writing was what they did at Enron.”
In response, Levy spokesman Mark Smith said, “The county executive’s problem was that Sabatino was making unilateral written decisions without discussing them with the county executive.”

Levy should have known that Sabatino's loyalty is only to himself. Everybody who has ever dealt with Sabatino knew this. It was a marriage of convenience from the beginning and the resulatant divorce was inevitable.
Now, Sabatino can continue to source for Brand without worrying about reprecussions from his boss.
