Nassau Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs said Wednesday he is betting that County Executive Thomas Suozzi will run for re-election next year.
While conceding that Suozzi has made no committment, Jacobs said, “if I had to put money on it I’d say Tom Suozzi is running for re-election.”
The party leader said he has had several recent conversations with the county executive and Suozzi is “most definitely looking at it and admits that he has an agenda that extends beyond next year.” Jacobs added that Suozzi’s recent appointment as the head of Gov. Eliott Spitzer’s commission to cap property taxes “has re-invigorated him tremendously.”
Jacobs comments come only months after Suozzi got a pay raise, putting his salary at $174,000 a year -- and a day after Sen. Hillary Clinton, for whom Suozzi and Jacobs have been working heavily, lost her eighth presidential primary in a row.
