Hillary: Managing expectations

Hillary Clinton was in Maine today, but reports out of Washington indicate she may be getting a drubbing in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Times got this statement from the Clinton campaign:

"Tonight there are contests in three states that the Obama campaign has long predicted they would win by large margins. According to a spreadsheet that was obtained by Bloomberg News, the Obama campaign predicted big victories in Washington State, Nebraska and Louisiana.

"The Obama campaign has dramatically outspent our campaign in these three states, saturating the airwaves with 30 and 60 second ads. The Obama campaign has spent $300,000 more in Louisiana on television ads, $190,000 more in Nebraska and $175,000 more in Washington."

"Although the next several states that hold nominating contests this month are more favorable to the Obama campaign, we will continue to compete in them and hope to secure as many delegates as we can before the race turns to Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania."

Doesn't sound like they're planning a victory party, does it?

Bill is happy, Hillary Soprano is losing all across the land tonight.
I guess HILLARY SOPRANO will have to dig deeper into her purse to pay for all the upcoming races.

Looks like Obama won "big" in Nebraska and Washington? Looks to me like total turnout in the two states equals a routine county executive race on Long Island. The networks are trying to hype these wins into meaning something more than a smart tactical decision on Obama's part to challenge in this low turnout caucuses. But somebody has got to put this into perspective. Clinton is winning almost all the big states that reflect the breadth of America. Obama is picking off targets of opportunity here and there. That's it... at least for now. If he wins Ohio, Pa and Texas then I will be a believer.

ps Same goes for Huckabees "big" win in Kansas... where 18,000 people came out... about, what, 4 percent turnout? And this is supposed to mean something in the bigger scheme of things. It only means something if the networks, wanting people to think they are reporting on something important, say it is.

This "Obama always predicted he would win the states by big margins" is new to me. I never heard such a thing. One campaign offers hope, and the voters flock to it. The other offers spin.

From the Obama camp before the voting today: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1711585,00.html

Added David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager, "These are going to be tough contests. Washington, Nebraska and Louisiana will all be competitive contests, they clearly are going to invest quite a bit of time in Maine. That said, we like our chances to add to our delegate lead."

No talk of big margins whatsoever. Quit lying, Hillary.

Good night for Obama. I watched his speech with my husband, Obama is just a good talker, but still scares the hell out of me to think about he could become the next President. Talk is cheap, we cannot afford have him face McCain, we''ll loose again these election, he wont be able to carry Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, North Dakota, South Carolina..I trust the good judgement of the superdelegates, they will pick the best suited to take us to the General Election and face John McCain.

Hillary supporters, think about the many ways you can help the campaign, donating, volunteering, creating awareness, etc. Obama does have a good organization but we need to show why we support Hillary from New York to California...and why issues and actions matter during this critical times.

Hillary is going to do great in Texas, Philadelphia and Ohio...I hope to go to Texas to canvass and get out the vote. I use to live there and as a Latino woman I think I could help in the Spanish speaking communities...

Lets show Obama supporter that Hillary's support is more solid!!!

Hillary is still ahead and will do super well in early March....Also her wins in Florida and Michigan will be added!!! Lastly, the Superdelegates will elect Hillary, the candidate that can face McCain in the General Elections...

We need a strong candidate not just a good talker...

some perspective for whoa. Typical NY arrogance to think that NY reflects the attitudes of the rest of the country. NY hasn't led in anything in years,

Its a big country, get your head out of the NY centric perspective and take a clear look.

Obama's winning by large margins in states in every sector of the country. Hillary and her people know it wasn't supposed to be like that. Bill's legacy was supposed to nail this one for Hill.

Hillary's in a tough no-win position. She was supposed to be the candidate. The party's choice. The status quo. Obama came in as the insurgent, the fresh face, the new leader. He was supposed to fade away.If she uses supr-delegates to win this she loses big. People have a tough time trusting her as it is. If she manipulates and goes against the popular vote (ie- real delegates) to win the convention, she loses Obama's supporters. They will rightly sense the "fix", and be turned off completely.

Just look at the money
Obama just has the money pouring in. He didn't need to manipulate the people by "loaning her own campaign money" and "having her staff work for free- which never happened." Obama, just by being an fresh, inspiring alternative, the money flows in.

While Clinton and Co. were out there promoting her "inevitableness" Obama was out there working and organizing!

I have been donating to his campaign since day one and am so proud of how he has handled my money!

Doesn't it say a lot about how he would govern? I am amazed at what he has been able to do and how well he has managed his campaign. Proof positive. My goodness the audacity of hope!

She (Hillary and Co.) has had every advantage and did not use the large amount of money she received from those big donors wisely!

In my opinion, it speaks volumes. We should listen.
