Facts: Obama and earmarks

Obama entered last night's debate as the new Democratic frontrunner, but on a couple of points he seemed as fact challenged as the old Democratic has been from time to time.

For one thing, he shifted ground from previous statements on normalizing relations with Cuba, saying it should happen eventually instead of immediately, as noted here. He also raised some fairly glaring questions when he deftly deflected a question from John King about why, if he was as big on government transparency as he claims, he hadn't disclosed his own earmarks.

Obama: "We've actually disclosed, John, all our earmarks. And so, you know, we'll be happy to provide you with that information, because I believe very strongly in transparency."

Actually, though, as the Republican National Committee noted in a release, he hasn't. He has released his earmarks for last year, but has refused to do the same for his first two years in the Senate.

The Washington Post, just last week: "Since last year, he has publicly released the letters he submits to the Appropriations Committee seeking support for the spending items, but has not released those submitted to the committee in 2005 and 2006."

Lynn Sweet, the Chicago Sun-Times Obama bird-dogger: "Obama has supported more earmark disclosure to bolster government transparency. Last June, Obama disclosed the earmarks he requested for Illinois and national interests. However, his office, after repeated requests since June, has yet to disclose earmarks Obama sought in 2006, before he was running for president."

Obama is an empty suit. He has donated close to $700,000 to super delegates according to the Center for Reponsible Politics. His pastor, Rev. Wright, whom Obama claims he discusses things with, gave Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, the radical bigot, a lifetime achievement award in December. Check out the church publication in Chicago entitled the TRUMPET. And here's a comment by Farrakhan "Barack Obama has been very careful not to position himself as Rev. Jesse Jackson or Rev. Al Sharpton as a promoter of ‘The Black Cause,’” Farrakhan said in the interview with FinalCall.com. “He has been groomed, wisely so, to be seen more as a unifier, rather than one who speaks only for the hurt of black people.”

Voters are behaving like teeny boppers with this guy. And they really know next to nothing about him except what he wants them to know

Just what we expect from a bunch of white people. Get a grip. You will not always be in charge. If you want to stem the tide on something, get control of the immigration policies that are allowing this country to be populated by more and more Hispanics. Instead of sitting around worrying about an African American president. You white boys are a real trip. 2008 and you all think the world still revolves around you--you all think you can run everything. You can run everything alright--you have screwed up the world. You are the race that gave us the Clintons and Bushes--be proud of yourselves. You have the audacity to call Obama an empty suit--the empty suits are the white boys like you all who won't be in control too much longer. The Hispanics have something in store for you all. They WILL VOTE and they WILL put their own in office. If you are giving this much hell to an AA, what in the hell are you going to do when you have a US President Hernandez? Yeah, just what I thought...

obama's empty rhetoric will catch up to him eventually, whether it be in the primary or the general election. i personally believe the honeymoon he has had with the major media is almost over. especially due to the fact that he can no longer live up to his own words. if they are his...
