ABC News has helpfully posted a video of Hillary choking up in Portsmouth, NH, as she talks about how hard it is to hit the trail every day, how much she cares, and how difficult the odds have been for her. You can watch it here.
Of course, it will be the subject of much gab. Is it real? Is she exhausted? She said this morning on GMA that she felt good, and lit into Obama, asking, "Where's the Beef?" Or -- is it contrived? It certainly fits with one of the campaign's new tactics -- making Hillary more accessible, humanizing her.
And, what will its effect be? Will be a "Muskie moment," named for the Maine senator who choked up in fury at an attack by NH newspaper magnate William Loeb on Muskie's wife, and saw his presidential aspirations go down the tubes. Have we gotten to a point where presidents can almost cry? Here's a web page we found about different politicians who teared up. The crowd in the diner where it happened was supportive, so maybe its the start of a Comeback Hillary moment. She really cares!!!
First Read notes that (coincidentally) Hillary talked about crying in an interview with Access Hollywood over the weekend: "It's that difficult position that a woman candidate is in, because if you get too emotional that undercuts you. A man can cry, we know that. Lots of our leaders have cried. But a woman, that's a different kind of dynamic."
Here's a John Edwards comment: "I really don't have anything to say about that. I think what we need in a commander in chief is strength and resolve, and presidential campaigns are a tough business, but being president of the United States is also a very tough business. And the president of the United States is faced with very very difficult challenges every single day, difficult judgements every single day."
And here's an interesting juxtaposition: The tears come from a candidate who Bill Clinton, just the other day, described as tougher than Yitzhak Rabin or Nelson Mandela!

Oh Pleaseeee, you ruined my day by telling me this.
Crying is part of the game,we know she's an ice princess!
The Clintons stripped Air Force one and all the other perks of the White House, talk to the secret service people in the service of the Clintons. they are horrid people,And if my guess is correct,,,you aint seen nothing yet!!!
It was set up and everyone knows it!!!
trying to show a side of her that does not exist!!
Drama Queen!!
Give me a break. How phony can you get?? If it's too much for her campaigning, what will happen when she is running the country (God forbid).
Clinton has really made history, she's the first candidate actively running who's spouse has been impeached...terrific.
There's NO CRYIN' in Politics...
Don't you think this tactic would work great in the middle east peace accords ???
C'mon-- she's like a parachutist in free-fall--pulling ot every cord she can find.
Hopefully the chute doesn't open. The sooner we are rid of these two despicable people, the better our nation will be.
By the way-- can anyone name a single major bill she's been associated with in 8 years in the Senate? Talk about a leap of faith!
the academy award for the best fake cry goes to
The tears were crocodile.
Expect a whupping later today in the Granite State, and later this month in South Carolina.
Back to the Senate for you, Sen. Clinton!
This country has been governed by either a Clinton or a Bush for almost 20 years, since January 20, 1989.
Enough.
And the majority is saying the same.
Hillary is a fraud ,the tears are phony ,certainly one of her numerous advisors suggested the act out of desperation. Hillary has used New York for personal gain and if not stopped by intelligent people will use the entire USA
Contrived and phony.
Just like the campaign.
Just like the woman.
Nice try for an Academy Award, though.
Hilary Clinton is all about the power of Washington, she could careless about the American people. Where were her tears for the families and victims of 9/11 or New Orleans, I don't remember seeing any photos of that. She will do what ever it takes to get back to the white house she is as bad as some of the TV evangelist crying for money. I am tired of the Career Politicians like her maybe if we could put term limits on them this country would finally get some fresh blood in Washington.
