Rudy endorsement spawns VP speculation

The Giuliani endorsement of McCain in Simi Valley this afternoon has spawned some vice-presidential speculation in conservative quarters of the web.

Bainbridge: "The emphasis on their shared beliefs, their similiar policy positions especially on the GWOT (Global War on Terror), and especially the need for a 50-state coalition. That last point sounded like an argument that McCain needs a VEEP who can appeal to Blue State voters; namely, Rudy."

And Hugh Hewitt: "Indeed, if the Arizona maverick triumphs next week, don't be surprised if John McCain selects a Rudy or Joe Lieberman as a running mate as an "all-in" play for the muddled middle of the country."

But from here, this looks like paranoia from the right, and makes little sense. Won't McCain pick a conservative to secure that quite unhappy wing of the party? Why would he pick another moderate with strength in the Northeast, where McCain is already strong, who had little appeal in the primaries and brings along a lot of personal baggage?

Rudy is the VERY LAST PERSON McCain is going to select as his VP.

No one who was in the military who pick a person who used the FRENCH 'MAGINOT LINE" STRATEGY AS A RUNNING MATE.

AND FINISHED BEHIND RON PAUL //////////////

In fact if RUDY truly wants to help McCain he should go on a world fact finding tour along with his 'BRAIN TRUST". STARTING TODAY AND RETURNING SOME TIME IN DECEMBER OF 2008

Giuliani won't be the VP because he adds nothing to the ticket.

McCain needs to shore up his conservative flank, but regional considerations matter as well.

McCain won in Florida and Florida will remain a pivotal state. I would pick Gov. Charlie Crist or reach out to grab some more Latino vote by picking Sen. Mel Martinez.
