What's going wrong for Rudy?
Take a look at David Brown of Sun City. Or, actually, two looks.
When Newsday's Mark Harrington, covering the GOP race in Florida, first ran into Brown a week ago, he was toting a giant Rudy sign (left) as the ex-mayor's campaign caravan rolled up to Sun City Center.
Then, on Saturday, when another campaign bus rolled up to the Sun City senior center, Brown was there again. But he had switched signs (right). Now, his placard read, "McCain!" The only thing left of Giuliani was the exclamation point.
Brown tells Harrington, in today's Newsday, that he cast an early ballot for Giuliani (maybe it's actually a good sign that Rudy got some votes from people who no longer support him) but wishes he hadn't: "I've had some [second] thoughts."
It's emblematic of a campaign that seems to be melting, losing both ordinary voters and -- over the last several days -- Florida's popular Gov. Charlie Crist and Sen. Mel Martinez: "Across the state, pockets of support Giuliani once counted on appear to be slipping, mostly to McCain, who has overshadowed the former New York City mayor as the national security candidate."
