Obama's tougher tone

With a new poll out today showing him trailing here in Nevada, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is sharpening his attack.

At a rally this moning in Reno, he took on rival Hillary Rodham Clinton with uncommon directness, ridiculing her economic revitalization plan as a rehash of his own, mocking her performance in Monday’s Las Vegas debate, and accusing her campaign of distributing literature that intentionally distorted his positions on several issues.

Obama also sought to blunt criticism that he has less experience than rival Clinton, implying that her years in Washington has left her with the habit of speaking cautiously and indirectly.

"It’s why people mistrust our politics, and part of my job in this race is to restore people’s sense that you say what you mean and you mean what you say. That’s why I’m running for president of the United States of America," he said.
