Two thoughts on the Democratic race heading into the weekend:
First, the strongest post-NH story lines for Obama have been endorsements from John Kerry, Ariz. Gov. Janet Napolitano and the big culinary union in Nevanda. For Clinton: Visit to actual workers in a neighborhood in Las Vegas, and unveiling a recession plan for the middle class including help with heating costs, foreclosures and the like.
Does anyone wonder why Clinton won union households, under-$50,000 people, non-college people in NH? Obama needs ballast and I-care-about-you stuff more than he needs big pol and union endorsements.
Second: Race and gender issues are still sparking. A quote attributed to a Hillary advisor: "If you have a social need, you're with Hillary. If you want Obama to be your imaginary hip black friend and you're young and you have no social needs, then he's cool."
And, an Obama spokeswoman: “A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements. Folks are beginning to wonder: Is this really an isolated situation, or is there something bigger behind all of this?”
And, during an Obama speech at a fundraiser, an audience member shouts: "Don't cry."
