Bill: On global warming and the economy (Updated)

Bill Clinton, on global warming in a speech yesterday:

"We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren."

Unfortunately, the country is in a recession and Hillary Clinton is supporting a big stimulus package. So -- is this really the message the ex-president wants to be sending??

UPDATE: A reader correctly points out that this quote from Clinton is being taken out of context. He clearly is not urging a slowdown, but discussing it hypothetically while making the point that a solution must be global. In context, it isn't noteworthy. Here's the full quote:

"Everybody knows that global warming is real, but we cannot solve it alone."

"And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties -- would say, 'OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.' We could do that.

"But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world's fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work."

Update 2: Here's a Clinton campaign fact sheet on the quote.

This is EXACTLY what I said in a previous post about the media creating a story that is not there.
Why does Riley get snarky on an out of context quote.
Why not post the rest of the quote and a cleared picture comes across...

Clinton is clearly saying it will not work.
Heck, even the Clinton haters over at The Corner called BS on ABC for taking the sentence out of context.

J-school really needs to emphasis ethics.

My God, the media's gone retarded.

You're right. I checked the coverage and the quote is totally out of context. We've put an update on the item to clarify. I should have read more carefully in the first place.

Jake Tapper and ABC are to blame. They pushed this story, Drudge Picked it up and the RNC already responded to it.
While Riley has the class to say that yes it is out of context, Tapper and ABC still stand by their reporting.
