Clinton spinster Howard Wolfson hit Face the Nation this morning and got all Watergate-ish, demanding that Barack Obama shut down his Hopefund PAC, which made about $180k in contributions in early primary states, possibly flouting federal regulations.
(The Obama people, of course, gave him a raspberry).
In a not entirely unrelated event, the Des Moines Register is reporting that the Illinois senator has vaulted from second place to a three-point lead over Clinton -- the second poll in a week showing him surging ahead. Plus he's picked up the endorsement of Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie today.
Whether Wolfson's attack works is up in the air -- at the very least it gives Clinton a sharp comeback when Obama and John Edwards tag-team her for taking fed lobbyist campaign contributions and PAC money. At least a better one than the Lobbyists-are-people-too riff she unveiled at YearlyKos over the summer.

Things are not looking good for Hillary right now. I went to a charity luncheon this afternoon and EVERY PERSON at my table (10 people) said they're supporting Barack Obama. The reasons varied, but the results still blew me away.
