The terrible Siena Poll numbers for Spitzer provide a wonderful opportunity for speculation and punditry.
The NY Sun says the poll "brings a competitive primary race closer to the realm of possibility." A News expert says he has to come clean on Troopergate and "change the way he deals with the media."
But the Times-Union's Fred LeBrun is taking a longer view: "Don't chisel a tombstone for Spitzer just yet. That's today's poll, based on yesterday's news."
That's a tempting view. Spitzer has a long time to get himself right again, if he's learned anything at all from the past year. But... has he learned anything? Spitzer yesterday:
"This is the consequence of doing what I believe is right. So be it. It's the nature of the job."
