Sen. Eric Adams: 'Show me the money!'

The Republican-led state Senate did a maneuver today meant to box in the Democrat-led Assembly on a pay bill for judges that excludes legislative salary hikes fom the current $79,500. Objecting to the measure, rookie Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn), debating against the GOP move, declared, "Show me the money. That's what it's all about," as he demanded legislative raises. The smart money in Albany now says the Senate Republicans will use this speech around election time as an anti-Democrat exhibit. For his part, Adams challenged editorial writers and others to go eight years without a pay increase if they object to his position. UPDATE: More quotes after the jump.

Dan Janison

Adams said in debate: “Half the year we don’t see our family and we are ashamed to say we deserve a raise. Well, I’ll be darned if I’m ashamed to say it. I deserve a raise. I deserve to be paid more and I’m only a freshman, and I’m already complaining. We better vote on a raise and mak sure we get paid more.”

"Show me the money, show me the money, that’s what its all about. We deserve more money. We deserve to be paid for the job we’re doing."

Senator Adams: No one FORCED you to run for the State Senate. You knew what it entailed - the responsibilities as well as the perks - before you agreed to serve. As a freshman Senator who is "already complaining," you may want to re-think your reasons for holding this public trust. "Show me the money," indeed.

Is this guy kidding? The State Legislature of of NY is simply a disgrace.

He is complaining, what about his Police Pension that is also payed for bt taxpayers

He is complaining, what about his Police Pension that is also payed for by taxpayers

You think Adams is bad, wait until you see what the extortionist obstructionist Silver does. Sheldon Silver is evil personified. The spiteful speaker will make sure judges don't get theirs unless he gets his. Silver has no sense of ethics, morals or propriety. All he cares about is getting his. He hates Long Island and hates upstate. If you live outside of NYC, Silver would just as soon let you rot on the side of the road if it meant padding the pockets of rich city folk. Bruno and Spitzer are Nobel Peace Prize winners compared to Silver. Shelley Silver is a very bad man. Get rid of Silver and Spitzer & Bruno will find a way to make New york work. Impeach Silver!!!

This - along with audio of Adam's rant - will be the topic of discussion this afternoon at 2 PM (Monday 12.17) on 590 AM WROW. We will be taking calls.

With all due respect to everyone; Please try and be empathetic to their positions, past & current work for the Community and how deserving they are of the raises when they dedicate sooooooo much time to the public good and have very little time for their own personal lives and families. I know no one is perfect but either are you or I. If they deserve the raise and honestly work hard for it then give them a break already. They might be working "part time" but really their personal lives and time is very much tied up with the public and constituents issues. It's hard for them to say "no" when they see people struggling or being victimized in one way or another. I am not a political person at all......I'm just saying it's easy to judge but it's not easy to hold the office and have a life too. The public will ALWAYS be scrutinizing and watching their every move(any public figure)and you can't make everyone happy or satisfy everyone's issues that need to be addressed when you're only 1 person. Everyone has issues but it's not fair to always be throwing stones when you're not in their position. In the case of Senator Eric Adams........don't forget that for 22 years he risked his life for the publics safety and got paid very little salary to do it, though I know he loved his job. I'm not on anyone's side, I'm just saying that as a niece of 4 Police Personnel(Police Officers, Detectives & Deputy Sgt. for the Suffolk County Sherrifs Office) and a Retired Court Reporter and Retired Fire Chief...................I truly understand how hard it is to keep the public safe and how little they're paid to do it. They deal with danger on a regular basis. How much do you think risking their lives is worth? Do you think criminals are easy to deal with? NOT. They're work is priceless!~~~~~~~Respectfully and Sincerely, Ms. Victoria Mary Stong / Humanitarian, Peacemaker, 9/11 Family Member of John Charles Jenkins, Former 9/11 First Responder & Ground Zero Bldg.7 Volunteer Worker 9/11-11/10/01 and Civil Rights & Community Activist in Long Island City, N.Y.-Well Seasoned!~~~~~~~Racism is an insult to God~~~~~~~
