Levy raises $300,000

Although he dropped his pricey $25,000 breakfest feature, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy raised an estimated $300,000 Wednesday night at his annual pre-Christmas fundraiser, bringing his campaign warchest for the first time over the $3 million mark, a record for Suffolk.

The $400-a-head event held at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook drew an estimated crowd of 300, though Levy spokesman Dan Aug said the results are not final and checks are still coming in.
Levy was able to amass so much money because he was cross-endorsed for county executive by Republicans this year and spent little money running for re-election. Levy's predecessor Republican Robert Gaffney never had more than $1.5 million in his campaign account, according former top aide Eric Kopp.

The county executive has significantly more money in his campaign fund than Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, who aides estimated has about $700,000 in his campaign fund. But Suozzi, a prodigious fundraiser, did make a losing primary race for governor in 2006 and lately has been on the hustings raising money for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Brand posts always have horrible misspellings. "Breakfest?" Maybe this guy really is an operative for the Dems, and not a journalist.

for the dems. ... right.
