After high-level departures, Suozzi fills Nassau posts

Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi has filled three vacant high-level positions in his administration by promoting two current aides and bringing in an aide from the administration of former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Suozzi promoted his former campaign fundraiser, Deputy County Executive for Compliance Marilyn Gottlieb, to be his chief deputy, replacing John Donnelly at a salary of $159,101. Donnelly left last month for the private sector.

Suozzi also promoted his director of constituent affairs, Ian Siegel, a Glen Cove resident who has volunteered in all of Suozzi’s past campaigns, to deputy county executive overseeing parks and public works. Siegel, who replaces Peter Gerbasi, will earn $142,643. Gerbasi left in September to join LiRo Engineers, Inc.

Suozzi also recruited Frank X. Ryan, Senior Director of Operations Planning and Support for the MTA Long Island Bus for the last 10 years and former Long Island director for the Secretary of State during the Cuomo administration. Ryan starts today as Suozzi’s $142,643-a-year deputy county executive for public safety, replacing Timothy Driscoll, who was elected in November to the state Supreme Court.

It is nice to see all of the salary increases. What happened to the Nassau Country Correction Officers contract? These are hard working individuals that work in a dangerous, stressful and a very unhealthy atmosphere. Lets not forget the people who should be recognized for a raise and a new contract!
