Kate mail sends Suffolk PBA from neutral to GOP
A last-minute campaign mailing by freshman Legis. Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) created a firestorm Saturday when she listed the Suffolk Police Benevolent Association among a half dozen other endorsements -- even though the county's largest police union had endorsed no one in the race.
Jesse Garcia, Brookhaven's GOP chairman, said the deceptive campaign piece "demonstrates that Kate Browning is wrong on public safety and will stop at nothing, including lying."
The mailing also angered Suffolk PBA president Jeff Frayler. "If these are the tactics of the 'Real Levy Team', the PBA has decided to endorse Betty Manzella at this late hour," he said, referring to Browning's Republican opponent.
Frayler said the union initially endorsed no one in the race because Browning had done nothing "for or against the union" ...

... and the decision was made not to take on a sitting incumbent.
Browning, reached Saturday evening, admitted the mailing may have contained an error because a campaign worker may have confused the PBA with the county police Superior Officers Association, which did back her. She said she will call Frayler personally to apologize for the mistake. "What can you do -- these things happen," she said.
Browning also emphasized she has not only the SOA's backing, but that of the deputy sheriffs', correction officers' and the probation officers' unions. Manzella has the endorseement of the Suffolk County Police Conference, which represents police unions in village and East End towns, and the county police detectives' association.

The real news here is that the PBA actually endorsed a republican, that must have been painful.
Kate Browning deserves the PBA endorsement, and the SOA endorsement, and the CSEA endorsement, and all the other organizations.
She has been a hard working, innovative legislator who represents the people in her district.
She has fought hard to get the government to stop dumping criminals and sex offenders in the district. It's about time!

PBA is upset with her only because she supports County Executive Steve Levy's fight to move $150,000 a year cops from filing records back to patroling our streets and neighborhoods. PBA is running its cop Vice President for Legislature in 4th district, he makes more than $100,000 a year and hasn't made and arrest or issued a traffic ticket in over 18 years. ( thats almost $2 million taxpayer dollars wasted). I say support Steve Levy and Kate Browning. We don't need John Powell and his Crookhaven crowd pulling the strings again in Suffolk.

She is against paying Suffolk County Cops
She is against having the cops run a union (like every other PD)

Betty Manzella is one of the classiest individuals to run for office in recent memory. Some voters have been completely fooled by the hate mail against Betty delivered to our houses every day.
We have 5 percent of the county's population in the 3rd Legislative District and 22 percent of the sex offenders. Kate, please explain the influx since you were elected. Please explain the influx of illegal housing, and sober houses while you are at it. Please explain why you haven't used your power to get a substation into Mastic Beach.
Betty insists on creating solutions for issues in our community and Kate insists on creating rumors about Betty. Kate has run the most selfish, nasty, unaccountable mudslinging campaign in Suffolk County this year, lying about endorsements and Betty. If you want to know why the PBA endorsed Betty ask the PBA. The PBA unequivically references the lies as the basis. Vote for class over crass. Vote for Betty Manzella!!!!
A candidate who blames endorsement mistakes on her campaign staff clearly shows that she is incapable of performing her duties as a county legislator. This must be the same staff member who is responsible for the 100 plus increase in sex offenders since she's taken office. Kate seems to always have an excuse, except when it comes to the issues where she's failed miserably during her two year tenure. Look at the facts! It's about time people started voting for individuals and not party lines because without that excuse, Kate Browning can't have anything bad to say about Betty Manzella. I supported Kate last time but I surely will not make the same mistake again.
