One strange offshoot of last night's debate: The retired brigadier general who asked the Republican candidates about allowing gays to serve openly in the military (and later gave a little speech) was apparently a Hillary supporter, and there are reports that other questioners might have been Obama and Edwards supporters.
So that has put CNN on the defensive. Apparently there's some rule that everybody but us thinks exists that only Republicans can question Republicans, and only Dems can question Dems. Is that supposed to make sense? Aren't these people running to be president of everyone? And isn't the whole idea of a YouTube debate that real people with real biases and real allegiances can jump in?
Anyhow, here's Anderson Cooper, professing ignorance:

This is a tempest in a tea pot. The real issue here should be the answers the GOP candidates gave. They want to continue a policy that is not working and is making the armed forces lose thousands of qualified members. As for McCain's statement that he talks to Generals that don't want DADT to change wasn't it military generals who also did not want African Americans in the military?

Well, when we start allowing Republicans to question Democrats in a primary debate, it won't be such a big deal. I didn't notice any of those Republican political activists popping up in the last Democratic debate, did you?
On the other hand, there have been two Republican debates moderated by guys who were actually Democratic Presidential staffers. The one time the Democrats had to attend a debate where they might have had to take questions from a Republican - the Fox debate where there's a good chance that one of the moderators would have been Republican - they all chickened out.
Where, exactly, is the objectivity in that?
Actually we don't know if any of the people who asked the questions at the Democratic YouTube debate were GOP supporters or staffers as no one brought it up. Besides if Republicans cannot answer questions from Democrats how are they going to stand up to terrorists?
