Publishing exec Judith Regan charges in her much-publicized lawsuit that her former bosses for Rupert Murdoch and HarperCollins smeared her in part out of devotion to protecting Rudy Giuliani from political harm.
Bear in mind, though, the company also did publish Wayne Barrett's "Grand Illusion" -- the 400-page myth-buster on the former mayor's less-publicized failures and fibs when it came to terrorism, leadership and 9/11. Barrett's book duly mentions how her one-time paramour Bernie Kerik, as police commissioner, "once sent homicide detectives to interrogate the staff at Fox TV studios where his publisher, Judith Regan, discovered someone had rifled through her purse while she was taping a show."
Regan, of course, was the publisher of Kerik's book, "The Lost Son". Regan and her ReganBooks division also published the much more useful work "Strong of Heart" by Giuliani's much more reputable business partner, former Rockville Centre resident Tom Von Essen, who was fire commissioner during the disaster and lost men and mentors close to him.
