The Observer managed to ask Sen. Clinton's chief media consultant, Mandy Grunwald (left), whether Hillary made Gov. Spitzer dump his plan to license undocumented immigrants to help her get out from under a barrage of questions about her presidential stance, and ease her flip into opposing the idea.
The answer: "I think we all know that Governor Spitzer does what Governor Spitzer thinks is right. My understanding is that he gave her a heads-up the night before."
What does that mean? It sounds like a 'no,' but of course it isn't really a 'no.' It's more like an 'if we put him on the rack in our dungeon, do you think we'd tell you?'
And, also: This is the same Clinton team that put out that statement on Oct. 31 that Sen. Clinton "supports governors like Gov. Spitzer who believe they need such a measure..." while "aides" assured reporters that she supported the concept of issuing licenses to illegals. Then, this week, Hillary went into I'm-ready-to-change-if-you're-ready-to-lead-me mode, and decided to not support a governor like Spitzer or the concept of licensing illegals.
So, with due respect to Ms. Grunwald, right at the moment you can't really be sure what the various aides around Hillary actually know about what she's doing and thinking, can you?
