Gov. Eliot Spitzer's retreat from moving to allow undocumented immigrants to apply for drivers' licenses topped the state news last week -- a downer for the rookie governor.
But Thursday evening, Spitzer and his wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, joined more than 17,000 fans to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Springsteen played for more than two hours, ending with a song about immigrants called "American Land." The lyrics ran on screens above the stage: "They died to get here a hundred years ago, they're still dyin' now. The hands that built the country we're always trying to keep down."
Many wondered whether the Boss had read the reports that the governor would be attending.
