Could be a problem: Did Rudy hide security funds?
Well, here's something that could be a fairly large problem for Giuliani on the cusp of the GOP debate tonight: Documents showing that Rudy tried to charge security expenses for traveling to the Hamptons to obscure city agencies back in 1999-2001, when he was traveling there to visit then-girlfriend Judi Nathan.
The Politico says tens of thousands of dollars were involved in eleven Hamptons trips it has records on, and city auditors privately questioned why the security costs and overtime were being billed to "agencies responsible for regulating loft apartments, aiding the disabled and providing lawyers for indigent defendants."
The core of the story is old. Back when his relationship with Judi became public, the tabs went to town reporting on detectives on guard duty idling away their hours out in Southampton, with one story estimating costs of $3000 a day when he visited, as well as stories about Giuliani ordering city-financed protection for Judi as well as for his wife, Donna Hanover. But it was never clear where the costs were billed.
