Bush mind games on Clinton, Obama

george-w-bush-picture.jpeg

As the two Democratic frontrunners squabble, George Bush and Laura Bush weigh in on the experience issue and say nice things about Clinton, not so nice about Obama.

But does Bush know that Democrats think he's almost always wrong and have a hard time doing anything but the opposite of what he says? Does he say what he means or what he doesn't mean to play with their heads? Does it mean he wants Hillary to win the primary because he thinks she'll lose the general, or wants Hillary to lose the nomination because he thinks she'll win the election?

In any event, Bush tells ABC: "I think she's a very formidable candidate, and one of the interesting things that she brings is that she has been under pressure. She understands the klieg lights....No question, there is no question that Senator Clinton understands pressure better than any of the candidates, you know, in the race because she lived in the White House and sees it first --could see it first-hand."

And he calls Obama's plan to meet with leaders of rogue countries "odd," noting that candidates other than Hillary "don't really understand ... how complex the environment is inside the Oval Office."

We haven't seen a statement from the Clinton camp -- what do you do here, thank the president or accuse him of dirty tricks??? -- but Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton comes up with this:

"I can't tell if Bush is endorsing Hillary, hoping she's the nominee, or thanking her for her votes on Iraq and Iran."

Well, I would guess Bush believes a good deal of what he is saying, and that he's saying it because he figures doing so will sandbag Hillary in Iowa. Bush wants the less tough candidate to win, and he sees that candidate as being Obama.

Of course, if his bank shot does pay off, and if he's right that Obama isn't all that tough, the Democrats are still going to win. The one unforgivable sin next year will be being Republican. It's been that kind of eight years.

Actually, I agree. He more or less believes it, and he thinks the bank shot will hurt HRC -- best of both worlds. Not sure about next year though, especially at the top of the ticket -- political progress in Iraq could make Rs look resolute, and cause Clinton to swerve yet again; economy is uncertain.

If you agree with Bush that the President should not agree to meet with foreign political leaders with whom we disagree, without policy preconditions, then by all means vote for Hillary Clinton. However, if you think that the President should be willing to meet with our adversaries in an effort to avoid military conflict and should deal with them from a position of strength, standing proudly by our democratic ideals, then vote for Barack Obama. I sure know who I'm voting for!

I will vote for Obama. I don't give a rat's ass what Bush says, who believe what he says. He is way down in the poll, and what he says does not mount to a 'hill of beans'.

Obama is the inexperienced of the two. If I were Democrat, I would vote for Hilary because she at least has some experience.
