Suffolk Legis Thomas Barraga has offered himself as a potential candidate as Islip Republican chairman should state Sen. Caesar Trunzo step down from the post.
Barraga made his “serious interest” known through emissaries when the town GOP’s executive committee met last week to discuss succession to free Trunzo, 81, who has been leader for 19 years, to run for re-election next year. The executive committee made no decision but is expected to meet again within the next several weeks.
Barraga, who who thrown his name in for a variety of posts in the past, said his conservative values would help "revive and re-energerize the town GOP."
The only problem is that county law bars Barraga from taking the post unless he steps down as a county lawmaker. The law bars elected officials, department heads, and members of county boards from simultaneously serving as town or county political leaders.
Barraga at first said he was unaware of the law but after reviewing it....

... initially interpreted it as only affecting him should he seek another term as a county lawmaker. He nonetheless said he would withdraw his name because the town party needs a leader for more than the next year and a half.
Quipped Paul Sabatino, former chief deputy county execuftive: “May be should try to put his daughter in” -- referring to Barraga’s unsuccessful effort to have his daughter run for his former Assembly seat.

Does Sabatino have any comments about Kennedy hiring his own wife to be his legislative assistant? Hmmm, didn't think so.
It is obvious why Paul Sabatino is now the FORMER chief deputy county exeecutive ---a real first class horses ass.
Just stop placing your name in nomination for everything Tom, you can be a hard working, knowledgable legislator. You are a lousy politico. You are incapable of listening to advisors and swallow all bs as long as it contains some kind of praise for your ego.
just ask legislator barraga if he forgot or did not know about the county law. after 30 years of politics he should know what a conflict of interest is.
by the way why not ask him where he got his matchbook phd from. and by the way ask the venerable leader why he voted against the star program when it was first enacted.
this program has helped thousands of long islanders to get some tax relief. i suppose that he will take credit for inventing the "internet" next
lol
