Right around lunch at the annual organizational meeting of the NYS Democrats in Garden City, came the road-show "unity moment" for Nassau's guys named Tom -- DiNapoli the comptroller and Suozzi the county executive.
One kissed the other on the head at the podium, at a luncheon sponsored by DiNapoli with a big banner to their backs. "If Tom DiNapoli and Tom Suozzi can be together there' s no excuse for New York Democr ats to not be together!" beamed the comptroller.
Suozzi's next move is unknown, but not DiNapoli's. Having been appointed by the state Legislature to the statewide post after the forced departure of Alan Hevesi, he said today that he will seek an elected term of his own in 2010. The re-election committee is being organized this week. This, just after Gov. Eliot Spitzer praised him as a man of "absolute integrity."
The unity stuff, of course, meant everyone involved downplaying potential internal splits, the whispered questions -- AG Andrew Cuomo versus Spitzer for governor in 2010? That sort of thing...
