Term-limited Suffolk Legis. Joe Caracappa (R-Selden) is making another foray across party lines, with his photo now popping up in the campaign ads of Democratic Legis. Jack Eddington touting his stance against illegal immigration.
Eddington’s new ads say: “Fighting illegal immigrants knows NO political party lines,” with a photo of the lawmaker and Caraccappa standing in front of a Farmingville sign. There is also a photo of Eddington with County Executive Steve Levy, and the statement: “Anyone who thinks Jack Eddington isn’t fighting illegal immigration doesn’t know Jack.”
Eddington’s ad comes after town Republicans did their own mailing linking local Democrats to Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to let illegal immigrants apply for drivers’ licenses. Caracappa said he has not endorsed Eddington, nor given him any money, but that he did give Eddington permission to use....

“A picture means nothing,” said Harry Withers, Suffolk GOP chairman. “It’s not going to change the outcome — Brian Egan is going to win.” Egan, the GOP candidate, said he was “not surprised” since Eddington and Caracappa were legislative allies. “He’ll be out of office soon. Maybe he’s looking toward his future,” Egan said.
