The latest Siena poll, published here, shows serious backlash over Gov. Eliot Spitzer's change in DMV qualifications to apply for a driver's license, and says Mayor Michael Bloomberg would beat the incumbent in a head-to-head matchup today. A bit of perspective, though: This is a bit reminiscent of Bloomberg's paltry approval ratings after the huge first-term hike in property taxes for city residents. Bloomberg subsequently gave out rebate checks before winning re-election -- but it is unlikely that Spitzer will carry out state immigration raids as a form of rebate.

What part of "illegal" does Mr. Spitzer not understand?
This Nation and especially New York's Security is at stake...why are we condoning "illegal's" now? Why give "illegal's" a free pass, for all that we have fought for and earned legally?
I do not believe in Mr. Spitzer's (hyperbol)plan, to better monitor and keep tabs on"illegal's"
This is a real shocker! According to the latest poll, Democrats ranked as their top three issues as health care, jobs and the economy and public education. The top three for Republicans were taxes, integrity in state government and public education. Why should Democrats worry about taxes; most of those folks who vote as Democrats don't pay any. Those voting as Republicans pay the bills; so naturally they are going to care about the tax burden. Why would Spiter want to give drivers licenses away...... because it will shore up his support in the communities where all the illegals hide.
If any politician enacts a law that would allow undocumented aliens to obtain any license, should have impeachment proceedings started immediately. Politicians should be putting laws into place that removes any undocumented alien from U.S. Soil. Our schools, hospitals, and the whole community can’t afford to support these people. Send them home.
