Political border enforcement, Long Island style

When federal immigration agents conducted raids across Long Island last week, the views of the local police forces coincided with that of their political bosses.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey said the agents acted like “cowboys” and misled his agency into cooperation by saying they were executing warrants for gang members when they were actually engaging in a round-up of undocumented immigrants.

That coincides with the immigrant-friendly tone taken by his boss, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy has taken a firmer tone on immigration matters, and his police commissioner, Richard Dormer, saw nothing wrong with the raids. “They were very professional,” Dormer said.

why is Suozzi taking the left liberal side of this immigration issue? Maybe he's protecting his landscapers.

Cowboy hats? Reeks of some sort of ethnic-stereotyping. Sounds like Suozzi and Co. want to complain about "rednecks" enforcing federal law. If an orthodox Jew were wearing a kippah and I commented about that, surely Newsday would make an issue out of such a statement.

It's no secret that Suozzi, Mejias et al support illegal immigration. Perhaps they should take their case to Congress rather than complain about federal law enforcement official enforcing federal law.
