North Hempstead vandal was aimin' at Kaiman

With North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman up for re-election next week, his supporters have been working hard to distance him from the recently announced indictments of four current and former officials in his building department for fraud, bribery and other charges.

Some wag with a can of red spray paint, however, was determined to tie him in last week. Nassau police acknowledged receiving a complaint from Kaiman’s camp that several of the Democratic incumbent’s large campaign signs had been defaced — with the message urging Kaiman be re-elected changed into one that called for him to be arrested.

...refused comment while supporters privately blamed Republicans. But Frank Moroney, North Hempstead Republican leader, disavowed any knowledge of either the painter or the incident. “Maybe this is a leak from the grand jury,” he quipped.
