Kevin Law, former top aide to Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, starts today as CEO of Long Island Power Authority — and it won’t be long before another high-ranking Levy aide joins him there.
After Election Day, Levy’s chief spokesman Edward Dumas will become LIPA’s vice president of communications. “Ed is the best public relations person I have ever worked with,” said Law. Dumas, a lawyer, will also be a top-level adviser and in charge of LIPA marketing, he said.
Dumas, who now makes about $98,000 a year, earlier this year told Levy that he planned to look another job, probably in New York City. But later Law suggested, “Why go to New York — why not half-way?” Law conceded it was “awkward” when they broke the news to the county executive about three weeks ago.
At LIPA, Dumas will succeed Bert Cunningham. But Law said Dumas will not receive as much as Cunningham, whose annual salary package is about $250,000. The exact figure? “That’s still in discussion,” Law said.
