Bernie Kerik is being sued by the Texas law firm Fulbright & Jaworski for failing to pay them more than $200,000 in legal fees, according to a Bloomberg story by Patricia Hurtado. The lawsuit, filed late yesterday in New York state court in Manhattan, complains Kerik hired the firm to represent him in 2005. But, the complaint says, after Kenneth Breen, the partner assigned to represent Kerik, left for another firm, Kerik failed to pay bills for $185,757 and $16,626.
Breen, now at the firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofksy & Walker, still represents Kerik in reported negotiations with federal prosecutors over charges stemming from his alleged acceptance of a free apartment renovation while New York City corrections chief and his vouching for the allegedly mob-connected firm that did the work.
