Suffolk's Levy: 'Mum's the word' on Law's replacement

With the exit of top aide Kevin Law to LIPA this week, County Executive Steve Levy has not settled on a replacement.

“We have someone in mind,” said the Democratic county executive. “We’re in the process of hammering it out.” “Mum’s the word” on who it is, he said. Levy said it was a “possibility” he’d make an appointment this week, but that immediacy was not required, since “we’re moving into the slower part of the year after the budget.”

Law, now LIPA’s chairman, will become the chief executive officer when Richard Kessel steps down. Levy called Law “the best bridge builder I’ve ever known.” Levy’s top economic development aide, James Morgo, has already turned down the post. Other names mentioned privately have included Thomas DeJesus, a former aide to Gov. Mario Cuomo, and former Long Island Association lobbyist Mitch Pally.

Levy declined to say if ...

... his other top deputy, Paul Sabatino, is leaving.

He said after the election he “anticipates that there will be some transition with some people in departments saying they want to move on, and move into the private sector.” But he said he expects only a “few changes” with the “overwhelming majority” of his staff staying in place.
