Ramos and Espaillat wouldn't be supporting illegal aliens if most of them came from Germany and Sweden would they ? I think not. You wouldn't find the Black and Hispanic caucus saying we need a hiring site for undocumented immigrants for White Europeans would we ? I think not.
This blame of racial pandering and baiting should be on all tiers of our government who have allowed this fiasco to smolder until it's now a raging fire.
Corruption surrounds day laborer sites. Also criminal elements hang out there. Just several years ago after they actually put a small child's playground adjacent to the site, they rounded up a dozen or more illegal alien pedophiles in Huntington Station using the laborer site.
Taxcheats and slumlords love day laborer sites. Apparently in Huntington they also love our tax dollars spent on them to break the tax laws and labor laws.
Yet Governor Spitzer acts like he also wants these corrupt sites illegally funded with our tax dollars.
If that is what he truly believes than he will be a one term governor. Our tax money should go for the communities children and destitute not foreigners and their corrupt taxcheating employers.
Our County Exec has made it very clear that he will NOT allow self rightous race-baiting radical members of state government to get away with "Blackmail". These members of the assembly by virtue of not only their threats of withholding nearly 300 million dollars from suffolk County which is vital to our economy but their actions as well by literally demanding that Steve Levy who has made it very clear that we cannot continue to reward those who violate the laws of this country by gaining illegal access, by demanding that we place "Hiring Halls" in our communities which of course will be another financial burden to bare as if we have'nt enough all ready. This issue is NOT about race but rather the violation of law, and the undergound economy that is generated by these workers which means more taxes for Suffolk residents because they do not contribute, not a dime to anything foremost our school tax system while at the same time they receive a free education. So now Mr. Ramos is Famous for something, trying to destroy Suffolk County.
Re:Huntington Station Hiring Hall
To Editors:
In a local media outlet there was an article about Huntington's Day Laborer site called“Disputes Continue Over Hiring Hall”.There are several things which should be noted. In the report it is stated,“statistics from the Suffolk County Police Department indicate that illegal activity at the site may be occurring less than critics are claiming”. First let me just say that the grunt work (work done in the community and on the streets and highways) by the men and women of the police department are exceptional. But like any other governmental department they must answer to their political bosses at the higher echelons of government bureaucracy. One of the biggest drawbacks to having a day laborer site is the attraction of workers mostly who are illegal aliens and in some cases violent criminals.
A case in point was the illegal alien day laborer from Guatemala who used his knowledge of using the site and working for a contractor who worked on houses in Greenlawn. He knew where two vulnerable women lived and committed his cowardly violent crime against both of them and even threatened one of the women’s very young daughter. This would not be included in the police statistic given. Neither would the dastardly crime of an illegal alien day laborer who while living in an illegal cellar apartment some miles away from the site was arrested for having repeated sex with a 6 year old girl who was the daughter of his landlord. That wouldn’t be included in those particular police statistics either. I could go on and on but I know I have proven my point. Citizens have been complaining for years and years that this site brings in people who can be violent and corrupt individuals. We do not know who these people are and neither does our government. Just recently we had an illegal alien belonging to the violent MS13 El Salvadoran street gang who shot three people sitting on a stoop on Columbia street in Huntington Station. Again this crime wouldn’t be included in these statistics given to us by the town administration.
The fact that those who commit these crimes a few blocks or a few miles away from the day laborer site doesn’t lessen the probability they were attracted in the first place to the site in Huntington Station to find tax free work. Councilman Cuthbertson says this site brings a sense of order to a previously chaotic situation. Anyone who lives in Huntington Station and has seen over these past 7 ½ years the hundreds of idle men milling about along NY Ave and Depot Road and along Pulaski Road, by the Tire Center, and surrounding side streets knows for sure what I’m stating. Mr. Cuthbertson is just giving us political spin. Did the police statistics include the recent shootings and bullet holes in Conte’s Burger Haven or was that just out of the political lines drawn to include that? How about the recent stabbings in a questionable dwelling along Depot road concerning two day laborers? Were they also included in this political line drawn to show us all is calm and serene in Huntington Station? How about the shooting and murder of a man along Nassau road or the man murdered in the neighborhood across from St.Hughs just in the last few months were they left out of these statistics?
The article states the Suffolk County Police Department has the records of the 57 assaults so far in Huntington Station and only 3 have occurred in the vicinity of the day laborer site and 47 burglaries and only 1 near the day laborer site and 17 cases of criminal possession of a weapon and none near the day laborer site (makes me think of those bullet holes in Conte’s Burger Haven) of the155 people charged with harassment in Huntington Station only 1 was charged on Depot road, 3 rapes took place in Huntington Station none near the day laborer site, 109 people were accused of leaving the scene of an accident in Huntington Station none near the day laborer site, 296 instances of petit larceny in Huntington Station only 3 near the day laborer site, 37 instances of disorderly conduct in Huntington Station and 12 instances were recorded on or near Depot road.
Of all the criminal activities in Huntington Station thus far in 2007 just 29 occurred in the proximity of the hiring hall out of 1,903 criminal activities in Huntington Station we are told.
Makes you really want to move to Huntington Station doesn’t it? Since these statistics are now reported I am asking the Suffolk County Police Department for the names of all those who were arrested and involved in these statistics and their place of residence for all of the 1,903 criminal activities involved in Huntington Station excluding any victims. Their citizenship status should be known to the public and I would like that information . Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy has come out strongly against day laborer sites being sponsored with our tax dollars so he should be happy to give me the information.
In this newspaper report is the statement that Brad Rosen a member of the Huntington Station Business Improvement District was a major proponent of having security cameras in the area.
Mr. Rosen was named to that position by the Huntington Town Board. Mr. Rosen is the owner of the land that is used for the day laborer site. Mr.Rosen is getting Huntington Tax payer dollars for the use of that site by the laborers and their employers for illegal tax free work. Mr. Rosen is a huge supporter of the present town administration. These facts are known and should have been printed in the article along with others. The town has now gotten the Family Service league to run and maintain the day laborer site because the IRS prevented the Huntington Station Enrichment center from doing so because of all things, none payment of payroll taxes. Talk about irony, exactly what does the IRS think the day laborer site is all about? I would warn the Family Service League that they may be in violation of Federal and New York State labor and tax laws along with the town of Huntington present administration.
When Councilwoman Susan Berland points out that “the town has spent countless time, energy, and resources in revamping the area” that’s nice. But it’s our money they are doing it with not theirs. At least do it the right way, not by rewarding businesses and politicians with our tax dollars to foment more illegality, crime and squalor. Councilwoman Glenda Jackson says” we have to be on top of the situation”, like they haven’t been for the last 7 ½ to 12 years?
Supervisor Frank Petrone says “Since the Lowndes Avenue Task Force was formed in April of 2003, we actually have seen a downward spiral in unwanted activity in the Huntington Station area.” Again, whose statistics theirs or those in the real world?
Councilman Besen says from part of a quote “Every person who is arrested and convicted should be checked to see if they are illegal and undocumented.” I’m glad he agrees with me.
