Suffolk Republican chairman Harry Withers and aides to presidential contender Rudy Giuliani have been scurrying around Suffolk county to lock up endorsements from elected and political officials.
But one of Suffolk top remaining elected Republican, Comptroller Joseph Sawicki, has balked at signing on.
Withers, who has Giuliani headlining his upcoming lobsterfest, said the “vast majority” of GOP party and elected officials have signed on to endorse Giuliani, including Suffolk’s only other countywide elected official, County Clerk Judith Pascale, as well as Legis. Edward Romaine (R-Center Moriches) the GOP county executive candidate four years ago and Legis. Thomas Barraga (R-West Islip).
“I‘m backing Rudy because he backed me for county executive,” Romaine said. Giuliani also backed Barraga in his losing run for Islip Supervisor last year.

Sawicki, a former Assemblyman and Southold GOP leader, said that Giuliani and his positions on gun control and abortion are too liberal for his liking. He also owes no political IOU’s to the former mayor because he was cross-endorsed by both major parties last year.
Although he has not officially endorsed anyone, Sawicki says he is leaning toward an unannounced contender, TV’s “Law and Order” DA and former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson.
“I personally admire his principled conservatism on social issues,” said Sawicki. “And he has already established a fiscal conservative track record in areas of areas of tax relief and tax reform.”

RESEARCHERS SUGGEST QUANTUM DOTS AS MEDIA FOR TELEPORTATION, June 21 According to recent research, tiny clusters of atoms known as quantum dots may be excellent media for quantum teleportation, a physics phenomenon in which information in the form of a quantum state, a very specific mathematical "signature" of an atom can be transmitted almost instantaneously to a distant location without having to physically travel through space. Teleportation is one facet of quantum information science, a developing field that could have a major impact on computing and communications. Full story at www.physorg.com/news101640721.html

Maybe Newsday can ask them where they stand on "NANOETHICS"
HERE WE ARE again Ed Romaine, never missing an opportunity to see his name in print. Making things large, always at the head of the line pretending to be a leader. The only one who has any ethics is Sawicki. What difference does it make if these wimps endorse Giulianni.
Ed Romaine, dying to see his name in print, dying to be relevant, just dying on the vine. Why don't the voters retire him to the political boneheap.
And the Dems cross-endorsed this far-right nutjob?
