Edward Walsh, Suffolk's Conservative leader, has made it official.
He says he will urge his executive committee that his party cross-endorse County Executive Steve Levy for re-election. And Walsh says that Suffolk Republicans should do the same -- rather than an endorse either of their no-name candidates.
“Going with Steve Levy is a no brainer for us,” said Walsh. “He’s the most conservative candidate out there."

Walsh said he will make the recommendation to his party’s executive committee when it meets for a final screening a week from Saturday. If the Conservatives do back Levy it would be the first time he has ever received the minor party’s backing in his 12 runs for county and state office, despite conservative credentials.
Ed Dumas, Levy’s spokesman, said, “We’re very flattered that our fiscally responsible policies have been recognized.”
Withers said that party leaders are still mulling a cross endorsement but are leaning toward running their own candidate. “I think Republicans in the clubs and the civic level want to see a race,” said Withers. "But some of the elected officials may see it differently.”

Steve Levy was endorsed by the Conservative Party in an unsuccessful run against Caesar Trunzo for State Senate some years ago. We saw the handwriting on the wall.
Steve Levy doesn't need Eddie Patronage Walsh. There is nothing conservative about the conservative party.
