The morning papers bring the amusing news that Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, congratulated Barack Obama and other Democrats for their fine fundraising performance yesterday, saying that their success "demonstrates the overwhelming desire for change in our country."
People who find silver linings in storm clouds are good to have around and it's probably unfair to expect Clinton aides to express their true feelings -- "we wish our opponents hadn't been so successful."
But here's hoping that Patti and Bill and Hill and Terry and the rest of the Clinton crowd didn't spend too much time celebrating the new change mandate last night. Because, you know, isn't it a bit more likely that the fundraising success of Obama and John Edwards actually reflects an overwhelming desire to not have Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee?

Clinton just has to admit that she has peaked. She will not be the Democratic candidate for president or vice president. Obama will be peaking soon too, but at least he has a chance to be a VP candidate. Edwards/Obama
