Gov. Eliot Spitzer is hitting the road to convince voters that he prevailed in the closed-door talks that yielded a budget with record spending and was late by 11 hours.
Last week, in meetings with homeowners and business executives from Manhattan to Buffalo, the Democratic governor gamely rebutted the belief that he had been “rolled” by the State Legislature, particularly Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (R-Brunswick).
“Health care reform, education reform, property tax reform, fiscal discipline — these are the issues I fought for, these are the issues I won,” Spitzer told a family in upstate Chili, near Rochester.
Spitzer’s “Bringing the Budget Home” tour coincides with new polls showing his popularity has slipped following negative ads over his budget proposals.
The tour stops in Binghamton and Rochester tomorrow, according to Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson. She added that the freshman governor hopes to visit Long Island soon, but no events have yet been scheduled.

It would be good for Spitzer to come to Long Island, but none of those stupid home visits. I mean puhlease. They are contrived, useless drivel and just plain dumb.
