No Vacancies

New Nassau state Sen. Craig Johnson, sworn in Feb. 12, had to wait before he was seated in the chamber near his Democratic colleagues this week. There was some squawking and moaning from the Democratic side about the matter, as covered by Jacob Gershman in the Sun.
Apparently Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) moved his seat to the former Michael Balboni space, pacifying the situation.
With his side accused of playing petty games, Republican majority spokesman John McArdle said of Johnson: "He got seated. He got a nice chair. But they're more concerned about chairs and measuring curtains than cutting property taxes."

For 12 years, the Republicans controlled the Governor's office and the State Senate, and sent Billions of dollars in unfunded mandates and proerty tax hikes to Long Island taxpayers. Now they're marching lock step with overpaid hospital administrators to block any effort to slow the growth of (NOT cut) Medicaid.

Republicans have forced property taxes to the breaking point, but paid lackeys like McArdle keep trotting out the same tired rhetoric because their pary is devoid of ideas.

They have as much credibility on this issue as Bush does on foreign policy.

Janison, are you on the GOP payroll? Johnson won the election, and the GOP crybabies refused to seat him in the Senate chamber. The "squawking" was the Democrats demanding that the voters' choice be allowed to serve. In a Democracy, this is not a trivial matter.

Ken LaValle has been eyeing that chair for years.
