Gaffney and Kopp, Together Again

New Dowling College President Robert Gaffney reunited today with Eric Kopp, his top aide from when Gaffney was Suffolk County executive.

Kopp, 51, has taken the post of director of communications for the 6,500-student Oakdale-based school. In taking the job, Kopp, a Coram resident, resigned his position as the Long Island Power Authority's $120,000-a-year assistant to the chief of staff, a post he has held for the last two years. His pay at Dowling, a private college, was not made public.

Kopp served as Gaffney's top aide for Gaffney's entire 12-year tenure and earlier served as campaign manager.

Since Gaffney left office in 2003, Kopp also has worked as a deputy county executive for public safety in Nassau for Democrat Thomas Suozzi.

Gaffney said that Kopp's "ability to interact with the government and private sector" make him a "real find" for the college.

Big deal Gaffney, looking for Eric to shake down the public to raise the money he promised Dowling when they made him President. Have they got a surprise in store.
