The Rudy Caper

Is Rudy getting a little soft on crime?

Tough-as-nails former prosecutor Rudy Giuliani cut crime in New York City by something like 10,000 percent and remains a sworn devotee of the "Broken Windows" theory of law enforcement – ergo, that you don’t let the slightest crime go unpunished for fear of emboldening criminals to commit more heinous misdeeds.

And yesterday Camp Rudy made the startling cops-and-robber accusation that someone had swiped their campaign playbook from a Giuliani aide’s satchel during a pause between private-jet flights. The G-people won’t say where the deed occurred (although the intrepid Maggie Haberman of the Post says it might have been Florida), which aide lost the goods or who the suspect might be. Not will they, apparently, call for a probe, even though the pilferer clearly committed a felony.

Four questions come to mind:

Glenn Thrush

1. Why the sudden lack of interest in catching the bad guys?

2. Isn't he curious about which of his political enemies did this to him?

3. Doesn’t he want to protect the citizens (of the Sunshine State) from being victimized similarly?

4. When is Rudy having another pasta dinner with his very good friend John McCain?
