New MTA Leadership Under Spitzer

As we reported today, Gov.-elect Eliot Spitzer's choice to replace MTA Chairman Peter Kalikow is Elliot "Lee" Sander, a senior vice president at DMJM Harris.

Spitzer and Sander said during a morning news conference in Manhattan that they plan to try something new at the MTA. Instead of the split accountability system in place now, where Kalikow and outgoing executive director Katie Lapp split duties, all responsibility for leadership will be on Sander.

Spitzer said he expects Kalikow to leave his post by the first quarter of 2007 and Sander will serve as executive director and CEO, doing away with the chairman title.

The governor-elect also rolled out more senior staff appointments: Pat Foye, president and CEO of United Way of Long Island, to lead economic development; Peter Pope, a deputy attorney general in the criminal division, to serve as policy director, and Anthony Sherris, a campaign policy adviser, to serve as executive director of the Port Authority, among others.

Wow! Pat Foye got jobbed. He was supposed to head up Empire State Development. Long Island not doing too well here, although Kevin Law should get the PSC chairmanship, and maybe Tom DiNapoli gets Secretary of State.

While Tom DiNapoli would be a wonderful Sec of State, in an earlier posting he was quoted as wanting to stay In the Assembly leadership and "move up the ladder." He has been saluted as both a confidant of Silver and Spitzer; seems like he loves Shelly more.

Someone's being naughty, and posting using Bill C. as his/her screen name. That Dec. 15 post was NOT made by Bill C., as, much to the delight of my fellow posters (esp. Suozzi Fan), I'd taken a holiday from posting on the blog.

Of course, there are probably hundreds of other Bill C's as this is a common name, so it could just be a weird coincidence.

Anyway, to weigh in on that other Bill C's posting...

I think you would find Patrick Foye quite happy with his appointment. I don't think he "got jobbed." Pat is a solid citizen, and he did a great job at United Way LI during his tenure.

Yes, Kevin Law would be a great choice for PSC Chairman, but there are also many other roles he could ably fill.

As far as Tom DiNapoli; there are only two saints on Long Island, both named Tom: Hartman and DiNapoli. Whatever role Tom D. takes, let's hope it leads to his being the next County Executive.

Public health experts agree this definition is incomplete. WBR LeoP

Did William F. Coleman, III hold the position of Deputy Budget Director for the New York City Department of Education? Can anyone answer this? It may have been between 1988 and 1992.

I just want to bring to your attention a story I just read over on a website called Highbrid Nation. The writer also works with a advertising company that the MTA refuses to work with even on a pro bomo campaign. The writer believes that it may be a case of racism. Interesting read. You might want to check it out. The link to the story is below.
