State Sen. Michael Balboni of East Williston apparently wasn't the only Republican senator approached about a job in the new administration of Democratic Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer.
Nassau Republican sources say Spitzer has reached out to other GOP senators who have Democratic-leaning districts -- including Serphin Maltese, who represents part of Queens and who barely won re-election last month.
Unlike Balboni, who accepted Spitzer’s offer to become the state’s homeland security chief, Maltese, a longtime Conservative Party activist, turned aside Spitzer’s approach, sources said.
The buzz, of course, is that by picking off a few Republicans, Spitzer could whittle away GOP leader Joe Bruno’s slim majority in the state senate and help swing it to Democratic control.

My money is on John Flannagan making the jump. A lot of Senators with young familes were screaming for that pay raise that didnt happen.
Maltese is toast. Albert Baldeo will knock him off big next elections in 2008. Maltese only survived because the Independent and Conservative votes took him over the line. Baldeo has the WFP now behind him, and Malcolm Smith, DSCC & Queens Dems would be perceived as racists if they don't back Baldeo this time around. This seat is Democrat, Eliot. Look somewhere else-upstate.
Maltese is going down, but it's not Baldeo that's going to do it. He's a real nut. If Addabbo is smart enough to take him on, he'll blast Baldeo and then take the seat from Serph.
Addabbo has some real maggots working for him. Galluscio, Betty Braton and nutty Joan DeCamp control his actions. Baldeo, a hero in his own right, is a nut? Better a nut than a chicken! Baldeo is a nut alright, because he is his own man, with the independence to do what is right for the district, not kow tow to any one. A nut because he in not white? Baldeo has earned the right, over Addabbo. Why ditch Baldeo at 49% when Addabbo himself got cold feet and/or protected Serf?Addabbo should run for Weiner's seat after he becomes Mayor. Addabbo must grow some balls first! He is Pheffer's stooge!

Maltese and Addabbo have a sacred pledge not to oppose or put up opposition against each other-they are 1 and the same! Maltese is Joe Addabbo's godfather. So how will Addabbo "defeat" Maltese? Cronyism all the way.

Ms. Spitzer reminds me of Hillary Clinton-bright, articulate, qualified and the perfect partner for the Great Eliot. Gone are those days when politician's wives are mere home makers. I say she will be an asset to him, and by extension, all NYers. What I don't like is so called "Political pedigree/dynasties"-I get in because my mother is the Queen of England, or closer home-the Hevesis, Addabbos, Weprins etc-these dynasties are a receipe for mediocre off springs to get a free ride on our tax dollars.
Addabbo's his own man. Anyone who knows him knows that. He'd be a far better representative for the district. I hope he runs next time.
Then why did he not try to displace Maltese all these years? His credibilty is shot. The truth is Addabbo, Pheffer and the other Queens politicos close out all insurgents who are not beholden to Queens County Dems-preserving their seats by not running against each other-mutual back scratching. Addabbo is in it for himself and his buddies, not for the people who have been neglected by them all these years. Addabbo will only run to keep out Baldeo or any other insurgents.Musical chairs whores...
