Andrew Cuomo has been endorsed by NARAL, which calls him the only "100 percent pro-choice candidate" in the race. The abortion-rights group used to endorse Pirro, when she was running in Westchester, but got turned off last year when Pirro decided to limit her support for late-term (aka partial birth) abortions to situations in which the life of the mother is at stake. NARAL favors a broader, life OR health posture.
This follows a Monday Cuomo endorsement by the New York State Fraternal Order of Police. Tomorrow, the Politicker says he's going to be endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats, a gay political club.
Where's Pirro? Her campaign has seemed a little quiet since she got blasted by Jeffrey Deskovic. Quiet, as in invisible......
UPDATE: The Pirro campaign says this was always supposed to be a quiet week, but she raised $250,000 at a fundraiser this morning and also got endorsed by the NYS Court Clerks Association. So there to me.
And also, spokesman John Gallagher has a response to NARAL: “Jeanine Pirro is pro choice and has been endorsed by NARAL many times. They are supporting Andrew Cuomo because he supports partial birth abortion.”
In the interest of balance, its worth noting that NARAL says Jeanine Pirro supported "partial birth abortion," too -- until last year, when she was briefly running against Hillary and courting Mike Long and the Conservative Party, and decided that her support was more limited. At that point, NARAL says, she "abandoned" the pro-choice movement.
