Score one for Suozzi (Updated)

Tom Suozzi has won the endorsement of the Amsterdam News, the Harlem-based newspaper catering to the city's black community. Here is the Times Union's description of the endorsement, which criticizes Eliot Spitzer for overweening ambition.
Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson said, "Eliot has certainly had a reputation and record as attorney general as someone who has done quite a bit for the African American community, and who plans, whether it be education or health care, to help that community as governor."
In the face of Spitzer's gazillion endorsements to date, Suozzi has said he doesn't need them, but we suspect he'll take some pleasure in this one.

Text of the endorsement is on the next page.

"Clinton, Suozzi, King Should Serve New York"

By Wilbert A. Tatum, Publisher Emeritus and Chairman of the Board"

August 31 – September 6, 2006

Vol. 97 No. 36

We choose Tom Suozzi for Governor:

Tom Suozzi is the perfect candidate for Governor of New York State. New Yorkers would do well for themselves and for the country if he is elected.  He has the urban experience and the suburban experience.

As New York becomes more urban than suburban and the shift in populations makes for the kinds of tensions that one would expect in a burgeoning society, Tom Suozzi has the competence, experience, and perseverance that one needs to fill the spot in government that has been vacant for twelve years – a real governor for New York State, a real governor who could go on to become President of the United States.

We urge that New Yorkers elect this family man, this lawyer, this healthcare advocate, this experienced legislator and all around good guy as Governor of New York State.

Within this context one should not mention the other candidate for governor except that during Attorney General Spitzer's tenure he has made a lot of headlines and helped in some ways to bring many white collar criminals to justice.  There is not much more to be said of him except his ambition is real.  Mr. Spitzer will sacrifice anything for his ambition.  On the other hand Tom Suozzi has an ambition that is natural, an ambition that flows rather than an ambition that is crude and harsh.  Tom Suozzi expects to achieve his ambition; Mr. Spitzer believes that he can force his.

New York does not need another governor who is overwhelmed by ambition, who is unwilling to accord all of his constituents equal time and opportunity.  Mr. Suozzi will.  Mr. Spitzer does not know how. Both men are talented; one of them is human to the core.  That human being is Tom Suozzi and he should become Governor of New York State. The Amsterdam News urges his election.

Hey greeny boy. heres a new tv add for your boy. "this little debate of mine, im not gonna show, this litte debate of mine, im not gonna show. This little debate of mine, im not gonna show , i am scared i am afraid that hey'll find out i dont know"!!!!

THE AMSTERDAM NEWS is a homophobic paper that still supports the Tawana Brawley lawyers in their quest to reclaim their law licenses after the State Courts stripped them of it because of their scandalous actions in that case. It criticizes Spitzer for ambition, yet Suozzi, hilariously, admitted at the Pace debate that he wanted to be President. As Rich Schaeffer would say: President of what? Next time your in the City buy a copy of the Amsterdam News and see how embarassing a paper it is.

Mr. Spitzer went to the State Fair in Syracuse for a barbecue, and to campaign on a larger scale.
Before a crowd of several hundred, he veered from the serious to the lighthearted, speaking briefly before his hunger got the best of him.

“It’s not the right moment to give a long speech about substance and property tax reduction and education and health care reform and the environmental issues and the labor issues we care about,” he told the crowd, adding, “I’m smelling hamburgers. When I smell hamburgers, I can’t focus on substance.”

this explains the no show at debates. he just dont know!!!

hey nassau nell. What does it say when a famous and popular newspaper endorses you, but tells everyone that his opponent is just as good? What does it say when a Mayor of a large City( a millionaire ) tells people, every candidate is good, and what does it say when a front running candidate for Governor , when asked questions about what hes gonna do, tells them I cant talk now I want a hamburger? Its says the grassroots are getting strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps. and please oh please dont rationalize not debating because its a front runner strategy. Hes not the incumbent, plus, what happene to being confident enough about your ideas to tell everyone about them (in a debate) Its a disgrace!

...exactly how many debates did Suozzi give Greg Petersen last year---as few as he could get away with.

lets dont compare aples with oranges nell. Greg peterson didnt even want to be county executive. He was told to run because they had no one else. and Tom Suozzi destroyed him in the debate. Its a disgrace nell that people without hope and jobs would ask him some questions and the attorney generals only answer is' I want a hamburger, cant talk now." Thats a shame!!! and even you know im right!

it is my understanding that the ny times has endorsed spitzer---to the suozzi true believers i guess they would claim that each candidate has an endorsement from one newspaper--all this really doesn't matter--the voters made a decision months ago to support spitzer and nothing suozzi has done-including attacking spitzer's family and calling spitzer a liar has changed the outcome--by the way--attacks of this nature are the true suozzi mo--election nite should be an early nite--i suspect about 9:01pm the results will be in---spitzer wins and suozzi returns to nassau to figured out how to reconsider his decision not to run for a third term--which we all know is the charm--then again what else can he do with his life--you can't run for president doing house closing---the not ready for prime time candidate will be soundly beaten and the miracle in mineola will soon be exposed-

Applause...... Very Good Mr. Green. Now maybe you can explain why the sherriff would rather have a hamburger than amswer questions from new yorkers that are really suffering. Oh by the way, ican tell by your bitterness your still upset about getting fired from the county. I sure hope you didnt pursue a career in writing.

That was a great endorsement the times gave mr spitzer. Let me see it went something like this. "Both men are well qualified, tom suozzi got the issuesto the fore front way before eliot spitzer did, so new yorkers will benifit from either man. Wow that sure was a one soded endorsement. Oh and mayor bloomberg says either one of the 3 will be fine with me. Very strong and forceful endorsements for the sherrif i say. LOL

I saw tom suozzi on news 12 last night debating a no show named eliot spitzer. What a disgrace. Perhaps mr green can explain to me too why he has declined 9 invitations to debate mr suozzi. Im sure there wasnt hamgurgers cooking on those nights too!!! Anyway mr suozzi was very specific in his details for "us" new yorkers. It will be on the air this weekend at 8am 11 am and 2 pm on channel 12. Perhaps mr spitzer should watch so he will know what to do if he slips in the back door sept 12th.

there you go again

is that a positive responce yup? i dont get it. Like mr spitzer said in his only debate with suozzi way back in july. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not their own facts. And its a fact, hes running away from the competition. He cant win one on one with Suozzi and all his puppets including nell, and green know this.

learn to walk first

i must confess that leaving the employee of nassau county was a great relief--at least i was one of a very few that didn't not require the services of a criminal atty during his/her service---i must point out that having served bob gaffney for almost three terms, there is a remarkable differnce between the two county exec---bob was a pricipled individual with a strong moral compass--tom is as mile wide and an inch deep-with no moral compasss--history will judge the two but for those of us who know the two men, tom pales in comparison

Whats a moral compass?

Now I camunderstand the sourgrapes by you mr greene. Let it go, its not healthy man!

most of us know at an early age what is acceptable behavior and what is not--one develops a moral compass for what is right and what is not--suozzi must have missed that part of his upbringing--he is without a moral compass--therefore there is nothing he won't do or say if he thinks it advances himself---it has been speculated that had tom spota been the nassau da and not dillon and now rice, tom would be in a different race----but-we will have to wait-remember you heard it first here--suozzi will run for a third term-since his word is usually not good what makes people think he will keep his pledge not to seek re-election--he is what he is--and i would like to suggest that the suozzi fan come out of the closet-are you a supporter or a paid supporter-since suozzi has stocked his staff with so many political groupies and hacks

You love to write, yet you cant read. Ivesaid a few times already I am not a paid supporter. Im just a supporter. Wow, getting fired really urked you, I see.

i do good at it too

dear suozzi fan--i understand tom is having his victory rally in a phone booth in glen cove--should be plenty of room for the guests

yeah thats true and theres room in the booth for all your friends, so bring him, okay?
