New York Urban League President and CEO Darwin Davis and former Buffalo Assemblyman Arthur Eve today urged Governor George Pataki to reappoint Judge George Bundy Smith to the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest.
Bundy Smith, nominated by the previous administration, is the only African-American on the seven-member court.
“It is imperative that our current governor recognize the value of diversity to the society at large,” said Davis. “Having jurists, especially amongst the higher courts, of Judge Bundy Smith’s caliber is essential to our society’s notion of fairness and justice. His reappointment is merited without question. This is nor a partisan issue, but one of appointing the most talented, qualified and able judges with a proven track record.”
“The governor should do the right thing for the people of New York and reappoint Judge George Bundy Smith to the Court of Appeals,” said Eve. “He is of the top quality and the Court needs to have a diverse group of judges that reflects the population they serve."

The safe bet is that Pataki will appoint Prudenti.
You live by the party trough, you die by it. Time's up for this guy. The party has changed. Next idealogue, please move forward. Pataki has no reason to re-appoint a political foe just so that he can get a full pension.
